I have spent a week in Worcestershire decorating rooms, re-reading old favourites (Swallows and Amazons, Puck of Pook's Hill), and admiring a 1927 Erskine (a marque produced by Studebaker in South Bend, Indiana from 1927 until 1930) rather than the more common Morgans - whose factory in Pickersleigh Road I go past to get to the builders' merchant for supplies.
