The snow which made such a scenic Christmas has all gone, although when I went jogging this afternoon the ground was frozen hard along the riverbank. Another of our sons got engaged this Christmas - they were both heading back to her family in Maryland USA which had two and half feet of snow by Boxing Day, so our light dusting didn't impress all that much.
The last few days have been glorious - sunshine and clear moonlit nights. It stays lighter a little longer each day. It looks set to stay clear and bright until Wednesday, when there's a chance of snow. I've been marking, planning, and writing thank you letters, and getting ready to be overwhelmed by the volume and quality of holiday work.
I also hope that everyone's been reading over Christmas - I became completely engrossed in biographies of the scientist Paul Dirac and the art patron Peggy Guggenheim; have been delighted by a book of political memoirs by Hugo Young, and found a Falco novel (the closest that classical Rome came to a private eye) that I hadn't read in a second hand shop yesterday.
