Thick Snow

Well done to 37 out of 48 who managed to get here last night - mostly due to prudent driving, but I think one of the better stories is JB Brown's. He started on a friendly farmer's tractor through three feet of snow in Co Durham. Several train journeys and nine hours later he was at Reading Station with two others, and a two-hour queue for taxis which didn't want to come out this far anyway. They took a delayed train to Shiplake, and dragged their heavy cases up to Burr. The dogs and I met them along the way - it took them over an hour to walk the mile and half. Lesley's hot chocolate seemed very welcome when they did get in - about eleven hours after JB had started.

This morning's routine might involve some lessons - it rather depends on which teachers make it. Few of us have tractors.

There's heavy snow here, and still falling. If you were planning to travel this morning - I'd suggest checking carefully on road conditions before you set off, and don't feel guilty about waiting another day for the hard-pressed gritting system to take effect. Or phone a farmer.
