Million Metres - Match Report

Some of the boys will be reading the below match report in assemblies this week:

"The challenge began just after 1:00pm on the Saturday with the senior lead out crew consisting
of Y13 & Y12 boys and girls. They went out at a ferocious pace managing to achieve 100,000
metres in the first 1 hour and 15 minutes. This continued until 3:00pm when the rest of the senior
boys and the juniors took over. The fast pace continued once the teams had perfected their
changeovers and by 4:15pm we had reached 250,000 metres and were a quarter of the way
through the challenge. The ergos didn’t stop moving until dinner when we were pleased to see a
crew of staff come and relieve us to allow us to have break and digest our dinner before the
evening slog began.

We reached halfway by 7:30pm but a bigger milestone was around the corner as the Domino’s
delivery man arrived to a huge roar as he had not only come to deliver pizzas but he also rowed
a few metres. As we got further into the night the music spurred us on despite Mr Dix putting on
songs from his teenage years. When we had finished rowing for the evening we had rowed over
750,000 metres.

We started rowing again early on Sunday morning knowing that our target of finishing for brunch
was in sight. As the boys started to wake up the rowing got faster and faster and before we knew
it we only had 100,000 metres left. At this point Olympic bronze medalist Sarah Winckless joined
us for the final stint.

As the final few metres were rowed there was a big cheer before we had a celebratory huddle
and a well deserved brunch.

We would like to thank Mr Beaumont and his team for the catering, Dominos for the pizza and all
of the staff and pupils who came by and rowed some metres on the guest ergo."
