BURR HOUSE PARLIAMENT
Wed 22 September
Yr 9: Daniel Digiulio, Barney Aldridge
Yr10: Charlie Phillips, Chris Leung
Yr 11: James Rossi-Bull, Duncan Pullman
Yr 12: David Gooddy, Tom Thornton-Smith.
- Giving up seats – seems unfair to some in year 9. Older years suggest that it works well over time. Yr 9 agreed to see how it goes and for CAML to ask again in February. Meanwhile this privilege must be used with politeness.
- Loo flushing – use less paper !
- Window openings – look again at gaps. Can certainly bring in fans.
- Hot choc machine – it would be too expensive to install, better to buy your own and mix it in a mug.
- More mirrors – give details to matron. Easy to solve.
- New playstation game – Black Ops - released Nov 9 - £44.99. Agreed. Meanwhile COD missing. CAML to ask around.
- Doors – check banging. Esp top floor kitchen. T1. Hooks for “air lock” doors during the dayime?
- Brighten up corridors ? More posters.
- Fussball table ? MBPs to survey level of demand.
- Fresheners in toilets – Matron to explore better alternatives.
- Old Burr WC – check extractor fan (again).
- Toiletries eg toothpaste – Matron can buy for you.
- Plants allowed in rooms. Discuss windowsill plants with Matron.
- House tortoise ? CAML happy to discuss detailed proposals.
- Toasty nights: current plan is for alternate Tuesdays, with toasties one evening, and frankfurter hot dogs the other.
- Internet shut off on Saturday – extend to 2300 for all. CAML to try.
- Fizzy drinks – you can buy your own if you wish. Not sold by matron.
- Hoodies etc. Needs a project team.Tom and David – steer.
- Charity fete ? CAML would welcome a plan.
- Showers – heads need de-clogging. Hot water may run out: be thoughtful.
- Taps in old Burr – too much pressure. Matron to investigate.
- Yr 11 to watch In betweeners (until 2230 on Mondays) – agreed subject to good behaviour.
- Clock for Old Burr – CAML to organise one.
- Toilet roll – is it really that bad ?
- Decorations in diner – plans welcome.
- Music in rooms – matter for school council
- Shorter preps on Wednesday – CAML to pursue.
A very sensible set of ideas - many thanks to members. The next step is for members to highlight some of the issues needing further planning, at evening check on Monday 27 Sept, and then to arrange for planning to happen.
Here is a note sent round to all pupils :
Next Thursday sees the first meeting of School/Food council for this academic year. This is a very important forum for you to put your views and thoughts forward and possibly making changes for the better at Shiplake.
Hopefully your House councils will have met by the end of this week and there may be some topics that are suitable to go forward to the School/Food council.
It would be very useful if you could use your next tutor period as well to try and raise some topics for discussion.
Each House needs to nominate a senior (yr 11-12) and a junior (yr 9-10) representative as well as representatives from College, Gilson and the Lower school.
If you would like to be one of your house representatives please let either your tutor, Housemaster/Housemistress or Head of House know.
Below are just some of the changes made due to School/Food Council discussion over the last 2 years:
· Changes to dress code at supper
· Lighting installed down to pupil carpark
· Extended time to flood lights on astro
· Music during prep (headphone use)
· Issues to do with network usage
· Pupil input on Sunday services
· Supervised activities on Sundays
· Pupil fundraising ideas for charity
· Meal time changes for year groups
· Input into new sport kit design
Kind regards
Mr Hunt
