I looked out of my classroom this week and saw a much more interesting lesson than mine - Mr Pavey teaching A2 Geography, starting with a dream about a mantlepiece with some crusts of bread and involving a nickel coin, flattened on the ironing board.
Even from his quick explanation over a cup of coffee I can recall that the earth's mantle is covered by different thicknesses of crust; and that iron and nickel make up the inner core.
He tells me he was partly inspired by memory grandmaster Ed Cooke, when Ed visited Shiplake to talk to the Babbage Society - so here's a shameless plug for his website, Memrise. I should declare my interest - my son Jon works on it.
