PA

An extract from the first Parents’ Association Newsletter

Why???

We thought it might be useful to set the scene as some of you may be asking why? Behind most good ideas there is a woman but in this case it was a man – the Headmaster, who thought it would be a good idea to have some mechanism which would bring parents together on a social basis; a mechanism that would cut across houses, day, boarding, age groups and facilitate parents meeting parents outside of their immediate groupings. So what happened next? A woman took the idea forward – enter Alison Davies who galvanised us to form the Shiplake P.A.!

A list of volunteers to date can be found at the end of this newsletter.

Progress to date:

Cheese and Wine Evening – we’d like to invite you to join us from 7.30p.m on the 4th December in the great hall. Tickets cost £10 per person and are available from Ashleigh Lapham [you should have contact details in the emailed version of this - or ask me: Charly]

Second Hand Uniform Shop – an area has been made available and the shop should be up and running in the New Year. Toni Hearnden is working with a group of volunteers to organise the shop and will send an e-mail in the near future with more details.

Christmas Decorations – if you have any that you no longer need then please bring them into school – we have a team of volunteers who will be decorating the great hall for the benefit of the students leading up to the last few weeks of term and also for the benefit of anyone coming along to the cheese and wine. Donations need to be made by the 1st December.

Helping Hands Register – we recognise the fact that everyone is busy and may not wish to be part of the P.A. committee for a variety of reasons. Well the good news is that’s absolutely fine – feel no guilt or pressure! However what we would really appreciate is your help on the odd occasion. We’re looking for people who would be prepared to join the “Helping Hands Register”. Not a huge commitment or burden but just to be prepared to help with the occasional event. If you have a particular skill/talent which might be of value to the PA, please contact Jo Emmerson.

What Would You Like Us To Do Next?
PLEASE let us know what sorts of things you would like us to organise and we’ll do our very best to take your idea forward.
We’re hoping to provide each house with a suggestion/post box but until this is organised please forward ideas to the college office for the attention of the P.A.

Provisional dates for your diaries:

St Patrick’s Day Dance 20th March
B.B.Q date to be confirmed but likely to be at the beginning of the summer term
Barn Dance – hoping to use the marquee during the last week of the summer term – to be confirmed
That’s all for now other than to say please contact Ashleigh to book your tickets for the Cheese and Wine. We look forward to meeting you on the 4th.
